Day 272. 29th September Bible Commentary With Dr. Toyin  Ojo Taken From The Book Of Matthew, Luke And John.

THE GOOD NEWS❕ PLUS.

MARK 114-15, MATTHEW 412-17, LUKE 323a

JESUS AT 30:- Jesus was informed that John the Baptist had been imprisoned “.. he withdrew to Galilee. Leaving Nazareth, he went to live in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of  Zebulun and Naphtali..” and the prophecy of the prophet Isaiah was fulfilled. (v.12-16, Isaiah 91-2). Jesus preached repentance, proclaiming the kingdom of God is near (Mk 115, Matt 417). He was about 30 years of age (Lk 323a).

HE TOOK JESUS AT HIS WORD:- A royal official came to Jesus at 1pm inviting Jesus to his house – for he desired a miracle for his dying son.  Jesus replied “Go, your son will live”(Jn 450) and the official left – he was met on the way as he journeyed back and told at 1pm yesterday the fever left (Jn 453) The family became believers. This was the second miracle in Cana Galilee. Faith is what we need.

LUKE 416-30

JESUS NOT HONOURED IN NAZARETH; though they initially handed him the scroll where he found and declared the words of the prophet Isaiah unto them (Lk 418-19, see Isaiah 612).  They had itch ears and would throw him down from off the cliff” v.29, but he escaped.

TRUTHS SPOKEN by Jesus in the Synagogue:

  • No prophet is accepted in his hometown. v.24
  • There were many widows in Israel during a severe famine; God chose and sent Elijah to only the widow of Zarephath. v.25-26
  • Many lepers during the days of Elisha in Israel, yet only Naaman cleansed v.27

Therefore as a minister of Christ do not focus on the crowd. Many have lost focus being pressured by the world to prove their ministry.   MARK 116-20, MATTHEW 418-22

Professionals left their job and became full-time disciples on Jesus' Team.

They were fishermen at work who responded to Jesus’ proposal: “Come follow me....and I will make you to become fishers of men” (Mk117,20, Matthew 419,21).

  • The fishermen turned disciples same day are – Simon Peter, and his brother Andrew, James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John.

MARK 121-28 , LUKE 431-37

A NEW STYLE, ANOINTING, AND AUTHORITY

Jesus was a distinct teacher he thought with authority in the synagogue and not as one of the teachers of the law, and the people listened with amazement.  Then he was confronted by a demon-possessed man and Jesus cast the impure spirit out “Be quiet! said Jesus sternly. Come out of him!” (Mk 125, Lk435).  And the good news went round.

MARK 129-34, MATTHEW 814-17, LUKE 438-41

THE WHOLE TOWN GATHERED AT THE DOOR;

Jesus and his disciples went to one of their houses (Simon Peter and Andrew’s) and SimonP’s mother-in-law was reported sick and was laid in the bed. She was healed by the touch of Jesus as he helped her up. And the news spread around.  This attracted crowd as the whole town gathered at their door. It was a healing crusade and he also drove out demons from many.

  • Many Evangelists, Pastors, Missionaries, Prophets, lie and siphon money / enter into contention, strife just to get a hall/museum for a crusade ground or build a church. Therefore, God withholds signs and wonders from their ministry, then they dig the hole further, by entering into scam miracles.

These things ought not to be. If only we can allow these signs and wonders to follow us like Jesus.

MARK 135-39, LUKE 442-44, MATTHEW 423-25

Jesus became popular in Galilee, crowns from Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and across Jordan followed him (see Matthew 424-25.) Miracles accompanied his ministry.

Jesus achieved the above because he understood his purpose and exercised self-control;

  • After the miracles at Simon Peter’s door, the crowds sought him early the next morning. But he had gone to a solitary place to pray
  • He told his disciples he must go to the synagogues to preach.
  • They went into the neighbouring villages preaching and healing the sick.

Jesus was not distracted he understood his purpose – To preach the good news.

NIGHT:

"Let us go elsewhere so I can preach."  Mark 138. These are the very words of Christ. Have you preached at your workplace recently or gone on evangelism at all? how are you a CHRISTian if you lead "a very quiet life"?

Let's spread the good news!

30th September CBC 2022 With Oluwatoyin Emiola Ojo From The Books of Luke, Mark, and Matthew.

JESUS @ THE SEASIDE.

LUKE 51-11

JESUS @ THE LAKE GENNESARET – THEN SAT IN THE BOAT.

The presence of Jesus now attracts crowd. It was so on this day as he stood by the sea, he taught them and had to sit on the boat to teach from there. After that, he blessed the fishermen whose job he interrupted by staying on their boat to preach – at his word: “ Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch” v.4.

Though they had toiled all night with no success they obeyed and had such great catch – their nets began to break, they filled their nets, and their partners who came to help had their boats filled too.  At this SimonP felt stricken – perhaps wishing he was more committed to the LORD – (Read Jesus’ response in v.10) -  they left everything and followed him (v.11)

MARK 140-45, MATTHEW 81-4, LUKE 512-16

A WILLING LEPER HEALED BY THE TOUCH OF A WILLING CHRIST (Mk 141, Matt 83, LK 513).

Jesus instructed him when he had been cleansed to be quiet and just go offer the stipulated sacrifices, (Modern day thanksgiving offering) and testify to the priest only – but he took the role of a newscaster and spread the news

MARK 21-12, MATTHEW 91-8, LUKE 517-26.

JESUS IN HIS HOME TOWN - @ CAPERNAUM heals a paralyzed man; (He had relocated to Capernaum from Nazareth).

But had to deal with a controversy, as he was picked on rather than to have been exalted. The people had broken through the roof by putting a hole through to let the paralyzed man in. Jesus saw the faith expressed and said “Son your sins are forgiven you” Mk 25.

The teachers of law thought he had blasphemed thinking “Who can forgive sins but God alone?” v.67. Jesus deliberately  (Chose his words) to make them realize he has the power to forgive sins (v.10).

Jesus said to the man “Get up, take your mat and go home” (v.11) and he did. They were awed! (Matt 98).

  • That teaching pulled the crowd from Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem (Lk 517). Among his audience were Pharisees and other teachers of the law.
  • A phenomenal question – “Which is easier?: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven, or to say, ‘Get up and walk?’” v.23. Let me draw your attention to your faith and focus - From this reaction, you can tell the world can be just not into you / careless as you see they were bugged by the words and spiritual order, not by the pain of the paralyzed or the shame of been dependent on others!

MARK 213-17, MATTHEW 99-13, LUKE 527-32

MAKING FRIENDS (MARKET PLACE CHRISTIANITY):

Jesus made friends with LEVI (aka Matthew) who is a tax collector. And he was been criticized.

WHY DON’T YOUR DISCIPLES FAST ❔❕ - Jesus was confronted by some, that disciples of John the Baptist and the disciples of the Pharisees do fast. And he gave them some analogies:

  • The Bridegroom and his guest (Mk 219, Matt 915, Lk 534-35).
  • Of the Old Garment and New Piece of Cloth – an attempt to fix the old with the new will make the old worse. Mk 221, Matt 916,
  • ✖- Old Wine in New skin. ✔- New wine in New Skin – Best practice.

NIGHT;

Ponder “…They praised God who had given such authority to man” Matt 9:8.

Authority to forgive sin.
