Day 276. 3rd October Bible Commentary With Dr. Toyin Ojo Taken From The Book Of Matthew And Luke.
PRAY LIKE THIS
“Our father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
Amen.” – Jesus.
Jesus taught his disciples to pray in those words. Matthew 6:9-13.
MATTHEW 65-18
FASTING AND PRAYING RIGHT - The Lord taught believers how to pray and where to pray;
- Pray in your room, with your door closed. What is done in secret God rewards openly. (Read v.5-6).
- Make your prayers brief. Bullet points like rather than essay like (v.8). Because God knows all your needs already. Pharisees and the Hypocrites pray lengthy prayers thinking they can impress God.
- Our Lord’s Prayer (v.9-13). This is how the Lord taught his disciples to pray. You may consider this a standard prayer or use it as a template.
- Forgiving others is core, when you do this, you earn God’s forgiveness too (v.14-15).
- Keep fasting secret (v.16-18).
MATTHEW 619-34
O YE OF LITTLE FAITH
Avoid having a canal approach to life. Evaluate your value system. What do you treasure? Here on earth thieves break-in, but treasures laid in heaven are present continuous – eternal and cannot be assessed by thieves.
What you see is important;
Be kind, be generous, so light fills your life.
“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the order; Or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and money.” v.24
Avoid worrying about your basic needs such as food/drink/clothing knowing you cannot add an hour to your life by worrying; therefore consider the birds, lilies “they do not labor or spin” (v.25-28). Yet God provides abundantly for them - (Read v.2932).
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” v.33
Let tomorrow be. Each day has enough challenges it presents for you to handle.
(v.34).
MATTHEW 71-6, LUKE 637-42
STOP FAULT-FINDING AND JUDGING OTHERS
“Do not judge or you too will be judged. … You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” v.1&5.
Place value on your life, what you have including your spiritual gifts and intellect
(v.6).
The principles in Matthew 71-6 above, are taught also in Luke 637-42.
“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, press down, shaking together, and running over will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Lk 6:38.
THE PARABLE of the blind leading the blind. “why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”(Matt 7:3). But a student can train to become a teacher ( There is expected Growth and Transformation in Christianity)
- Jesus is calling attention to lifestyle Christianity.
MATTHEW 77-11
We should feel confident to pray and ask God for anything.
“Ask and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” v.7-8.
Even earthly fathers who are evil give good gifts to their children (v.11).
✅ A silent spiritual law - "Do to others what you will have them do to you." Matthew 712
THE WIDE GATE AND THE NARROW GATE:
The wide gate is tempting but leads to destruction. The narrow gate is better; you find hidden treasures in there - health, God and his angelic host supporting you, and you can have all you could ever hope for or imagine.
MATTHEW 715-20, LUKE 643-45
FALSE PROPHETS DO DISGUISE! – know them by their fruits.
⁕GOOD WORKS – Likened to good trees
⁕EVIL WORKS – Likened to evil trees.
“Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.” Matt 717.
MATTHEW 721-23,
Therefore, many prophesying, driving out demons, performing miracles now on earth will be unrecognized by God in heaven and called evildoers. “Not everyone who says to me ‘Lord, Lord,’, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only those who do the will of my father who is in heaven” v.21.
MATTHEW 724-29, LUKE 646-49,
Who is a wise man?
The man/woman who hears/learns the word of God and makes them his/her act (that is practice) – lifestyle. Jesus likens such to a person's act as - building a house with deep foundations laid upon a rock which then withstands the rain, floods, and winds.
Those who hear but do not practice build houses on sand and such buildings easily collapse❗️
