Day 269. 26th September Bible Commentary With Dr. Toyin  Ojo Taken From The Book Of Matthew, Luke And Mark.

ESCAPE TO EGYPT

MATTHEW 21-23

THE VISIT OF THE WISE.

The Magi (Wise Men) saw the star of Jesus, and went in search, asking “where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? (v.1).

HEROD THE JEALOUS KING sought a meeting with teachers of the law, as the news of a baby king spread. They revealed to him the place of the birth of Christ as it has been prophesied been BETHLEHEM IN JUDAH.

HEROD’S SECRET CONSULTATION with the wise men; seeking to know the exact time the star of Christ appeared. He approved of their search for the Baby King so he could worship him too (see v.78) but he had an evil motive which is to kill him.

THE MAGI found Jesus been led by a star, they were filled with joy and they gave him of their treasures; Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh (v.11).

God prevented them from going back to King Herod (Through a dream see v.12).

We are in an era of gross dehumanization by the bridge of privacy like never seen before.

In the case of Jesus, his star was revealed at birth. In that era, it is for each individual and people all over the place that are skilled at observing and monitoring the starry hosts and people’s stars - destinies.

Yet, the Holy Spirit, and the divine army commanded by God to lead and guide us are wiser than them. Whatever their means of communication, they can’t beat the army of God to it.

JOSEPH AND MARY ALSO ESCAPED to Egypt because an angel reveal the wicked plans of the kind Herod to him (v.13).

  • King Herod felt deceived and killed all the boys age 2-. This was the fulfilment of the Prophet Jeremiah's Prophecy (see v.18).
  • In the course of time, Herod died, and an angel told Joseph that, and as advised in the dream; they set out back to Israel but resided in Nazareth because Joseph feared Herod’s son Archelaus who succeeded him in Judah.

Therefore, as prophesied he would be a Nazarene (v.22-23).

LUKE 241-52

Jesus’ parents took him to the festivals yearly and at twelve he stayed back; sat, talking with the teachers in the courts of the LORD, asking and answering questions.

“After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers.” v.46-47.

Jesus calmed his parent's anxiety by going home with them - he told them they ought not to be worried, he is meant for the temple. (v.48-49).

MARK 12-8, MATTHEW 31-12, LUKE 31-18

THE MINISTRY OF JOHN THE BAPTIST; preparing the way for Christ “…from the wilderness preaching, a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.” v.4.

He told them “After me comes the one more powerful than I…… I baptist you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit” Mk 17-8

JOHN THE BAPTIST REBUKES THE PHARISEES AND SADDUCEES coming to him for they are skilled hypocrites. Never sincerely promoting good.

“Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. The ax is ready at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire” Matt 38&10  He told all Jesus is coming to Baptize them with Holy Spirit and with fire (Mk18, Matt 311).

LIFESTYLE CHRISTIANITY STILL ON DEMAND: John challenged the people and the leaders to lead by example (see v.11-14). They in fact began to think John the Baptist as the Messiah they were expecting (v.15).

  • The GOOD NEWS of Christ was John’s message and he clearly told them he is not the Messiah.

MARK 19-11, MATTHEW 313-17, LUKE 321-22

IT IS PROPER

John baptized Jesus. It was such unity. As he came out from the water, the heaven was opened and the Spirit descended on him like a dove, saying “this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased.” Mk 111, Matt 317, Lk 322

NIGHT:

For further reflection: ‘WE SAW HIS STAR’

As in the case of Herod the feared king who exhausted his authority, evil will not rejoice over good. (Consider and treasure in your heart Matthew 212-13,16a).

  • ANGELIC HELP. The more dependent on the divine the more angelic manifestations you will have.
  • MOTIVES; the wise men didn’t discern the motive of the king but God revealed it to them in a dream. Matthew 212 . We can rest our heads and let Team God help us!
